The Pittsfield Township Fire Department

The Pittsfield Township Fire Department

  • Covers an area of approximately 27.5 square miles.
  • Provides fire suppression, emergency medical services, technical rescue, fire prevention services to the citizens and visitors of Pittsfield Township.
  • Is comprised of residential, rural, commercial, and industrial parks. We also cover Ann Arbor Airport, and portions of I-94 and U.S. 23 including the I-94 and U.S. 23 interchange and a stretch of U.S. 12.

The fire department is staffed with twenty (20) full time personnel and thirty-nine (39) paid on call firefighters. The full-time staff consists of:

  • 1 Deputy Director - Fire Services
  • 1 Fire Commander
  • 3 Lieutenants
  • 6 Sergeants
  • 9 Fire Fighters

In addition to responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, all fire personnel are required to attend many training sessions, maintaining firefighting and emergency equipment, participate in accident and fire prevention programs. Personnel also perform building inspections and pre-incident surveys.

Pre-incident surveys are where fire officers and firefighters go to commercial and industrial properties and become familiar with their layouts, hazards and after hour emergency contacts. They also gather other vital information specific to occupancies, so in case of an emergency they can better perform their duties.

The department also provides for specialized rescues called Technical Rescues. This additional training consists of Vehicle Extrication, Ice and Water Rescues, Hazardous Materials, Confined Space Rescues, Trench Rescues, Rope Rescues, and Building Collapse Rescues.

The department is constantly reviewing and purchasing new and improved equipment in an effort to advance the safety and delivery of its services.
